Towards an Inclusive Climate-smart Community
Climate change is a humanitarian crisis and a development challenge. Therefore, creating an inclusive community with access to food, clothing, and equal opportunities gives rise to a community putting forward collective measures to tackle the climate crisis from an informed perspective.
“Climate change aggravates the effects of population growth, poverty, and rapid urbanisation. Without serious adaptation, climate change is likely to push millions further into poverty and limit the opportunities for sustainable development and for people to escape from poverty.”
On the 27th of May, the Christian Association of Nigeria celebrated the Children’s Day event with the children in Agoro community. To mark the day, the association distributed food items to children in the community to help sustain and celebrate the day with other children in the world.
Coastal communities take the brunt of the effects of climate change, making them vulnerable in different areas of lives and livelihoods, areas that need partnership and collaboration to tackle. Kadara, Coat and Market streets are one of such communities under Agoro Community.
Climate change exacerbates food availability, in turn, causing more hunger, malnutrition and starvation, mostly among vulnerable people, particularly for women and children who are impacted by many socioeconomic, political and environmental decadence. These challenges have led to the unavailability of food and cut short its accessibility to the poor masses.
As part of the Kadara Waste Reduction curated to help foster climate literacy and inclusion in partnership with the various relevant organisations, other socioeconomic challenges have become a threat undermining our various climate efforts to achieve a sustainable future.
