World Environment Day: Towards a Sustainable Future

World Environment Day: Towards a Sustainable Future

Like every other international day celebrated by the global community, the 5th of June was a significant moment for the world. It marked the Decade of Ecosystem Restoration to push different nations and peoples’ commitment to achieving an inclusive, sustainable and healthy planet, not just for this generation but for the subsequent ones to come. Hence, the race to include, particularly the indigenous people, coastal local communities and socially marginalized in the fight to build back the ecosystems of planet earth has become a commitment for the decade.

World Environment Day: Towards a Sustainable Future

To commemorate the day and join the global clamour, the Revamp Rave Network organized a cleanup tagged CleanUp to celebrate the day. The project has series of programmes, from a One-day Capacity Building Training Programme on Climate Change for youth climate leaders, climate enthusiasts and volunteers by Revamp Rave Network, to Community Sensitisation and Awareness for Climate Action by Revamp Rave Network in partnership with RecyclePoint, Cloth drive-by Folabomi foundation, Children’s day celebration by Christian Association of Nigeria.

World Environment Day: Towards a Sustainable Future

The CleanUp Kadara, in partnership with Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, the Lagos State Waste Management Agency and the Rotary Club of Isolo Metropolitan, was one of the pathways to achieving the Kadara Waste Reduction Project, which began in May. Revamp Rave Network developed Kadara Waste Reduction Project to include coastal communities in climate action, educating them on being climate literate while partnering with relevant organizations to help solve the many environmental degradations destroying the marine ecosystem.

World Environment Day: Towards a Sustainable Future

The cleanup was to show coastal communities such as Kadara that attaining a healthier environment can be achieved. Although a challenging task but not an impossible one. Showing them through these simple gestures, such as the cleanup, was a great deed toward creating the change we so much seek while harmoniously bringing people together to care for the environment to achieve the climate action cause.

World Environment Day: Towards a Sustainable Future

It was a groundbreaking day for them as the show of care and togetherness to clean was first to none. Therefore, this impact created through the help of our partners, volunteers and friends couldn’t have come at a better date than on World Environment Day.

World Environment Day: Towards a Sustainable Future

Restoring the ecosystem demands preserving the natural resource found within and it takes every human to do so.

Let’s do more for people and planet Earth.
